We stayed up late Wednesday, checking the weather reports with crossed fingers. The calls from school came in early -- just after five o'clock for him, half past six for me. A snow day, like an answered prayer.
I made a cup of tea and watched the snow as night turned to day. I ate grapefruit and avocado toast and dug my coziest sweaters out of the closet, readying for colder days ahead.
We've settled in to catch up on grades, evaluations, emails -- ordinary Thursday things made cozier with blankets, balsam candles, and a swirl of snow just outside the window.
