Mid-January and we've still had no sign of snow, at least not the kind that brings canceled school and shoveling and mugs of hot cocoa in the afternoon. This week was windy afternoons, two pints of ice cream, a visit to the midwife to hear a galloping heartbeat, ordering tiny knits in ochre and anthracite. It was adding bits and pieces to a registry, things that will turn this home into the sort of place where a baby lives. It was restless nights and sleepy afternoons and lazy mornings, listening to NPR and watching the light peak through the curtains.
