A snapshot of that Philadelphia summer -- deferring law school for a year (or forever) while I daydreamed about what it might be like to write my days away, spending my weeks learning the hardest lessons in my AmeriCorps uniform, choosing popsicles for dinner more nights than not, never quite adjusting to the rhythm of the city.

And on my birthday, a visit from my fella (before he was my fella). He arrived with yellow flowers and we wandered my neighborhood before retreating from the heatwave for iced teas.

We never celebrated anniversaries before getting married -- never sure of the exact moment when we decided, sometime that summer, that he was mine and I was his.  But that day, so long ago now, with flowers and a few games of scrabble and a confession on his way the door, is as good as anything to cheers to.
