the end of autumn

17 November 2017

I returned from our trip moving a bit slower than usual, and this week was a whirlwind of paperwork and meetings that knocked the wind straight out of me.
And yet, I'm grateful for learning to take time for little things that make us feel more grounded -- pumpkin pancakes before church, a bunch of eucalyptus plucked from the flower section at Trader Joe's, opening a bottle of wine from our travels, quietly cheering at the arrival of holiday playlists on the radio, cozying up on the couch with hot toddies (bourbon for him, tequila for me) at the end of the week.  As we're barreling towards Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the new year, I'm determined to savor more of the things that make us feel happy at home, over griping about the things that make us feel tired and worn.  Winter is nearly here, and I'm feeling hopeful.
