We waited until June for a honeymoon and we left for the west coast just after the last day of school. Our trip began in Venice, in a tiny backyard cottage. We walked to the beach and fell in love with the sunsets, and the spooky black cat who roamed outside our airbnb. We went hiking in Malibu, and I read Joan Didion on the sand while he braved the chilly ocean. There were fish tacos, and pizzas, and our requisite vacation trip to Whole Foods (actually, two). There was an outdoor shower, and vine-covered walls, and the grateful sigh of relief that we made it through another school year.
